The School of Geosciences participates in seismic recording experiment

During the weekend of Oct. 15-16, a diverse group of 27 young scientists from UL Lafayette School of Geosciences, LSU, Baylor, and Southern University, led by Dr. Patricia Persaud (LSU), participated in a regional microseismicity experiment.

The group deployed of 378 seismic nodes, focusing on the Baton Rouge Fault and the Mamou Fault in Louisiana. The nodes are geophysical instruments that measure motions of the ground that are too small to be felt. The collected data will be used to understand the characteristics of various features underneath the Earth's surface, and how faults influence Louisiana's coastal subsidence and groundwater flow.

The scientists will retrieve the nodes in about one month and hopefully have interesting data!
